If you like answers then you wont like Jordan Peele's new horror film Us. A bold statement to make maybe, but one that I find to be true nonetheless. After his breakout success with Get Out, Peele must have undoubtedly felt the pressure with Us and whilst for the most part it continues his unique and refreshing take on the horror genre, it certainly does crumble under the weight of its own pressure in the final few minutes.
The story of a family on holiday terrorised by dopplegangers of themselves is a terrifying concept and for the first two acts is done fantastically, but act 3 becomes exposition heavy and ultimately leaves the film feeling a little too far fetched and as a result squanders much of the good it had done. An issue I partly had with Get Out, but to a much smaller extent.
Stellar performances by the main cast however, worth watching for Lupita Nyong'o alone but the rest of the family really help elevate this film to something greater. Oh and get the soundtrack, amazing score that I will absolutely be listening to again sometime soon.
