"The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world. So, wake up, Mr. Freeman. Wake up and smell the ashes." - G-Man
Following their departure from Microsoft, Mike Harrington and Gabe Newell founded Valve L.L.C., a development studio that would self-publish PC games. The duo had a desire to create games that didn't neatly fit the mould which publishers wanted, and their first title, Half-Life, not only exemplified that, but also redefined the First-Person Shooter genre, and pushed the boundaries of what was thought possible with videogame narratives.
Now twenty-five years later, the Half-Life franchise, also encompassing the Portal titles, is recognised as one of the few video game franchises that is yet to have an entry that doesn't redefine the genre with each new release.
Collected here are my reviews for each of the mainline Half-Life and Portal games, listed in release order, and categorised by respective series.
