The King is the type of film you would only want to watch on a service like Netflix. It’s long, boring, stiffly acted and you don’t leave the film knowing much more about the real world events it is based on than you did when you started the film.
Following the crowning of Henry V and the ensuing war against the French, The King does a whole lot of nothing in its 2 hour 30 minute run time. I say that with surprise because it definitely didn’t feel like the film was that long...but it was, and hardly anything happened during that runtime.
My biggest issues are that you often can’t hear what characters are saying because they grumble all the time; and that the action sequences are often poorly shot and anti-climactic. The best scene in the entire film is the opening which has more effort put into it than the rest of the film put together. Robert Pattinson also looks really ill due to how his hair and makeup has been done, and it was really difficult not to laugh at how badly he performed his part.
Unless you’re a proper Henry V history buff I’d say don’t waste your time with this rubbish, even then a book or documentary will probably serve you better. I suppose I should just be happy I didn’t pay to watch it!
