Ready Or Not is little more than a by the numbers slasher, but what it lacks in originality it makes up for with its endearing female lead and interesting premise.
Samara Weaving plays newlywed Grace, who on her wedding night is unknowingly forced into a lethal game of hide and seek by her in-laws. Weaving’s performance is really the only thing that kept me paying attention as she does a pretty good job in the role. But although the premise is certainly interesting the film ultimately collapses under its own weight in the last act and becomes a supernatural affair completely out of left field.
I’d hardly say it’s a bad horror film, you can certainly do worse, but it is totally forgettable.
There were ways that it could have been improved by fleshing out some of the more interesting characters, and staying away from supernatural goings on at the end. But I’m sure it’s a film that’ll be a somewhat good time with friends once it lands on Netflix.
